Green Energy and Smart Technology Applications: Mobile Sensing and Building Innovations

Programme delivered by the Faculty of Science

Objectives

  • The swift growth of smart cities brings the Internet of Things (IoT) and sensors to the forefront, which are essential for better energy management, monitoring, and analysis, all contributing to improved living standards in urban areas. This programme offers a chance to learn about IoT and various sensors through lectures. Skills in mobile app coding will also be taught, allowing for practical experience in gathering sensor data. Upon completion, students will have a solid understanding of IoT, sensor technology, and mobile app creation, preparing them to support the progress of smart cities and enhance city life.
  • Building consumes ~90% of the electricity generated in Hong Kong. Therefore, it is important to improve the energy efficiency of the building. This programme offers a chance for the students to learn the latest advancements in energy saving technologies and advanced materials for green building applications. Knowledge about heat transfer, light, and materials science will be taught during the programme. Students will have a chance to see the prototypes for the energy saving technologies, such as smart windows and radiative cooling films. Upon completion of this course, the students will have a solid understanding of sustainability, green building, and the concept of light, heat, and materials. The course will prepare them for further STEM study and inspire their participation in daily sustainable practice.
